Really Good Tippet
Just to be fair, so far I've only used the 5x material. It is easy to tie and holds like I expect. Compared to other brands this is a bit pricey, about $4 more per 30 yards. In my book that will be the killer for this product. Sometimes it comes down to price.
Cortland Ultra Premium 5X tippet
One of the stiffer tippets, like Trout Hunter. Stiff is a quality not favored by some for dry fly, but I like it for wind knot resistance. Knot strength I equate with abrasion resistance and both are most important to me. Trout Hunter tested the best of all tippets for me until now tested against this Cortland. Both materials miked as advertised. I soaked a couple feet of each 15 min, then Davey knotted them to an Orient Sun 5240 heavy gauge size 16 hook - always avoiding the potentially sharp gap at the eye closure. After each test , clipped an inch off each and retied. After five straight breaks of the Trout Hunter I stopped. This Cortland tested better than Trout Hunter.
